Mason bees are gentle but amazingly powerful pollinators, superior to the honey bee due to their earlier start in colder temperatures. Similar to the leaf cutter bee, these solitary bees are unable to burrow nests for their young and usually reside in abandoned beetle burrows in dead logs. These attractive mason bee houses can provide the shelter necessary to attract mason bees to your yard and assist with producing greater yields. For best results hang the shelter from its stainless steel hook against an East or South facing wall or post, preferably where the box will be sheltered and receive morning sunlight. As mason bees craft the interior of their shelter using mud partitions, it is also helpful to have a source of moist soil nearby.  Please note this item is hand crafted from resawn cedar barnwood siding, beams and posts. The finished surface is sanded smooth; however, some houses may have nail holes, mineral stains from rusting, tool marks, wood checks and other cosmetic inclusions that add a wonderful patina.  Now available in the original size (shown) and a large size with 16 additional nesting cavities.
